Please indulge me for this week. I think it’s extremely important. We can get back to the real estate matters next week. The thing about real estate is it will always be there. Always has, always will. I recently joined a group called 100 Men of Scugog. The reason for this group is that a whole bunch of men get together and try to decide how to make Scugog a better place. So, how do they do that? The group meets 4 times a year. Those meetings include local organizations that need financial help doing presentations to show why they should be selected. And by selected I mean that the group picks one of the presenters as the organization that they want to donate to. That could be as much as 3-4,000 dollars and if things ramp up the way they are expected to, could mean in excess of 10,000 dollars to the organization. Really opens your eyes to the help being offered in the community for those in need. Both financially and spiritually. Really, these days, we can’t get enough of that help. The most recent meeting included presentations from Port Perry Walk For Dog Guides, Bereaved Families of Ontario – Durham Region and the local chapter for Feed The Need. All 3 groups gave amazing presentations and are all very worthy candidates. In the end the Bereaved Families was chosen as recipient. Some really needed dollars were sent their way. We live in a community that for the most part is thriving and well to do. But like anywhere else, there are factions in our community that need help. In a big way. This group (100 Men) is just one of those groups trying to provide a better way. It’s really quite easy for all involved. We meet quarterly. You bring your 100 dollars to donate. We see presentations for charities in need. We vote on who we see most in need. And then that group is announced as the recipient. Not complicated at all. That’s the beauty of this. Very simple and the strength in numbers only increases the amount donated. This will be the 10th year for this group coming up and the goal is to increase membership exponentially. The group in Kawartha is rocking with over 150 members and the challenge has been made for the Scugog group to get there. That can only happen when people take the initiative to get involved. Tyler Renaud has been leading the charge for the last 10 years and has a good grip on what the group is all about going forward. I am glad I joined and my only regret is I didn’t act on this sooner. I live by the credo to always be paying forward and to come from a place of gratitude. This is just one more way of doing that. To make this awesome place called Scugog an even better place to call home for all. Check out their web site at 100men.ca and join up. You will be glad you did. And the bonus is, you’ll be making a whole bunch of new friends that are contributing to a very worthy cause.
