LAUGHS FOR THE LAKE

Port Perry resident Mike Coll had a funny idea to raise money for the Scugog Lake Stewards. Or maybe it was an idea that was fun. Either way, how about a comedy show with the proceeds going to the Stewards? This group performs many vital functions to preserve the health of Lake Scugog and Mike want to get involved. “I noticed there wasn’t much comedy in North Durham. The annual Yuk Yuks February event in Blackstock sells out in a few weeks and not much like it for the remainder of the year. I took an informal survey online and found there was substantial interest. Ticket sales have confirmed that as we have sold 15% of the tickets available before we even hit July.” If you have never been to a stand up comedy show, you don’t know what you are missing. The topics can be very tame or raunchy depending on the comedian and the time of night. The Yuk Yuks venue in Oshawa has become a popular hangout and they regularly sell out for Friday and Saturday shows. This is one step better. The event is in our own backyard and the cause is a worthy one indeed. The show features an All-Star comic roster of Scott Faulconbridge, Justin Shawn and Cathy Boyd. Scott is a three-time Canadian comic award winner, director, actor, producer and headliner at the Riviera in Las Vegas. Cathy appeared on Canada’s Got Talent and normally headlines her own shows and Justin is the East Coast MC for the evening, bringing his brand of Atlantic humour. Mike asked for the best and they delivered. There will be 2 shows on Saturday September 13 at the Port Perry Legion. Show times are 5:30 and 8:00 PM. Tickets available on line or at the door. Let’s leave the last line to Mr. Coll. “Lake Scugog gives me such joy. Giving back seems natural and the idea to partner with the Lake Stewards is an easy one. This year is about refocusing on Lake Scugog and its health. If we can raise money for additional testing, studies or drudging that can make a difference for our communities on both sides of the lake. 100% of the profits from this event are going to them. And Heather Haliburton at The Legion has been great to work with on this project.” Well said, Mr. Coll.
