SCARY STUFF

It’s That time of year again and in honour of the scary season how about a look at some scary stories in the Real Estate world? More than a few of those for sure. First one up. Years ago I had clients looking in Prince Edward County. They weren’t sure what exactly they were looking for so we showed as many as possible. We came across one place that looked like the owners were big collectors. Sure enough every room seemed to have lots of stuff in them. The lady I was showing the home to wandered down the hall and a few minutes later I heard this blood curdling scream. I ran down the hall to see her cowering in the corner of the room pointing at the bed. No wonder. On the bed was a collection of like-like dolls and at the front of the pile was one that looked like the doll in Seinfeld that looked like George Costanza’s mother. Needless to say we hightailed it out of there. Another time I was showing a home to clients just south east of Port. When we walked in there was an incredible stench of cat urine but that was nothing compared to what we saw. EVERY room was full of old car parts and in many cases they were piled floor to ceiling. I suggested a bulldozer. True enough, they actually bought the place. Another one just south of town had two homes on the property. One was the owner’s, the other a rental place. We went through the one home and it was neat and tidy. The rental unit? Not even close. The kitchen had dishes piled up over 2 feet high and hadn’t been cleaned in weeks. Many of them had old food and stuff still stuck to the dishes. There were dirty clothes all over the floor. I quickly backed out of the place as did my clients. On another occasion I was showing a place in Port. I mentioned the place to one of the other agents and was told that place was haunted. Sure. I thought he was full of it. But get this. We showed up and the place wasn’t lived in. There was a desk in the front room and one of the drawers was open. I closed it because I didn’t want anyone bumping into it. We went through the ground floor and then made our way upstairs. While we were up there I thought I heard a drawer being opened which was weird because no one lived there. So we made our way back downstairs and lo and behold that drawer was opened again. Needless to say we beat a hasty retreat. More recently we were looking at cottage properties up around Minden. One particular place seemed to be waayyyy off the beaten track. As we were trying to make our way into the place, my client looked at me and asked if we were going to make it out of there alive. Holy Deliverance, Batman. But for the record we DID survive that ordeal. Goes to show you just never know. Happy Haunting out there to all the Ghosts and Goblins.
